The vulcanization and dispersion of EPDM, and in some instances the incorporation of large quantities of softener (> 40%), require a processing length with an average L / D = 56. However, the production machines have a wide range of processing lengths, from L / D = 45 and L / D = 68. Depending on the starting materials and the cross-linking system, the confiuration of the processing section is matched to the reguired processing stages.
| - | | Grind EPDM in bale form, powderize, convey and feed gravimetrically into the feed on the ZSK |
| - | | Feeding of additives, fillers and thermo-plastics gravimetrically into the feed |
| - | | Feeding the softener, metered gravimetrically, at one or more points along the processing section to the ZSK |
| - | | Melting, dispersing, cross-linking, mixing, phase inversion |
| - | | Degassing of volatile components, ideally via Twin-screw side-degassing unit ZS-EG |
| - | | Screen pack changer |
| - | | Pressure build-up using gear pump for very high-viscosity melts |
