Modular principle for the optimal operational configuration.

The ZSK series is built on a modular system. The advantage of this modular principle is the many configurations of the process sections that allow the best combination for every application. All processing tasks can be optimally accomplished with only a few barrel and screw variations. The reason: barrels and screws are precisely and individually configured for the respective process application. The process section is always only as long as necessary and as short as possible.

 

The process section of the ZSK consists of many barrel sections in which the co-rotating screws work. The closely intermeshing screws with their tight, self-wiping profiles eliminate dead zones over the whole length of the process section The effect: consistantly higher degree of process reliability and optimal self-cleaning.

As flexible as the applications – barrel section according to requirements.

The modular principle of the barrel permits precise sequencing for each application. Each barrel section’s temperature can be maintained separately. Heating usually takes place electrically with heater shells and / or heater cartridges. Cooling is done with water or steam. For special applications, the barrel temperatures can also be maintained with liquid or steam heating. Barrels as well as screw and kneading elements are made out of nitrided steel in the standard version. In the extremely wear resistant and corrosion resistant version, they are made out of the corresponding suitable materials.

Closely intermeshing, co-rotating twin screws for flexible process zones.

The screws in the ZSK MEGAcompounder consist of solid shafts, each with an individually configured sequence of screw and kneading elements. The freely selectable order of screws and kneading elements assure the process sections mate with the process configuration. Thus, different process zones can be set up, interchangeably, each according to the requirement for:

 

 

-Conveying
-Plasticizing
-Mixing and shearing
-Homogenizing
-Degassing
-Building pressure.
 

 

 

Gentle handling of product and low shear stresses.

The allowable torque is a crucial parameter for the performance that can be achieved. Allowable torque and speed determine the possible drive power, along with the achievable degree of fill in the screw. A high degree of fill which results in a lower average shear rate provides gentle product treatment. The high torque of the ZSK MEGAcompounder of 11.3 Md / a3 and the ZSK MEGAcompounder PLUS of 13.6 Md / a3, allows a higher degree of fill in the screw channel, at the same screw speed.

The advantage: higher throughput at the same speed, and / or lower screw speed with the same throughput.

 

 

Balanced ratio of high driving power and large screw volumes.
The diameter ratio of the ZSK MEGAcompounder is designed for maximum free volume: The ratio Do / Di of 1.55 determines the free volume of the twin-screw, at a given centerline distance. The di-ameter ratio is constant across the entire series of the ZSK MEGAcompounder and of the ZSK MEGAcompounder PLUS, and guarantees the ability to upgrade the various machine sizes from ZSK 26 Mc up to the ZSK 380 Mc.
