   Underwater pelletizing (UG).  
  Coperion Werner& Pfleiderer develops and supplies hot cutting pelletizing equipment for thermoplastics, which has been used successfully for decades.

The underwater pelletizing unit is similarly suitable for pelletizing of practically all thermoplastics. However, its ideal use is

-for thermoplastics which tend to clog the die plate and stick to the knives (e.g. PP, LDPE copolymers), and
-in large production plants for mass plastics such as polyolefins and polystyrene (underwater pelletizing sizes in the upper output range)

 

 

Special features and advantages of underwater pelletizing
-Constant pellet quality
-Partly automated, simple start-up procedure
-Lower personnel requirement for start-up procedure
-When using a low-pressure pocket die plate, there are further benefits:
-Low pressure build-up due to optimized flow channels saves energy and protects the product
-Large number of bored holes per die plate size – thanks to the patented structure – facilitates high outputs
-Optimized heating flue system ensures even and intensive heating of the die plate
-No freezing up of the liquefied material in the holes on the die plate when starting up
-Long lifetimes for die plate and pelletizing knife, thanks to specially-developed wear-resistant materials alloys
