| The product | | |
Typically chemically reactive single compo-nent systems where the cross-linking of the substrate is initiated through air humidity. As this occurs, the reaction products are split off. Following rapid skin-forming on the surface, the cross-linking continues inside the compound until there is complete hard-ening throughout. Starting from the poly-mers, we make a distinction between silicon sealing compounds (RTV) and PUR sealing compounds.

The elastomers are metered individually or as a premix, using a gravimetric feeder, into the feed barrel. After plasticizing / masticating and compounding the various rubbers, the resins (solid or liquid) and softeners / oils are added downstream. For larger quantities, the liquid can be fed at several locations along the extruder, using multiple kneading and homogenizing stages to avoid pin-holing. Depending on the later processing, additional process stages such as degassing to remove air and volatile components or filtration of the finished compound is possible.
