Wear-protected rotary valves and diverter valves for the mineral industry

Powtech in Nuremberg: Coperion presents long-term practical experience

Weingarten/Germany, April 2010 – Innovative wear protection concepts now permit the use of rotary valves in systems for the bulk handling of heavily abrasive materials. At Powtech 2010 (Nuremberg, April 27 to 29, 2010), the German company Coperion GmbH will be exhibiting, among other things, its range of products for these special applications. Wear-protected rotary valves and diverter valves are distinguished by their outstanding reliability of operation, long service life and hence minimal repair and maintenance requirements. Consequently, these products are ideal for use in the mineral industry.

In the cement industry, for example, one of the essential advantages of Coperion’s rotary valves in comparison to the more conventional screw pumps lies in the considerable saving in energy. Power requirements – and hence energy costs – are reduced by more than 90% compared to systems equipped with screw pumps. This alone, despite the slightly higher capital investment in most cases of application, will enable the user to recuperate his investment within a very short time. Added to this is the fact that wear-protected rotary valves provide a longer operating life by up to 50%, this having been proved in the mineral industry by several cases of long-term application of up to 3 years. A further decisive advantage is the negligible time – and hence cost – of converting a system for use with rotary valves. Either no or only very negligible changes have to be made to the layouts of the piping system and the compressed air supply lines. As rotary valves are relatively small in comparison to conventional systems, there are no space requirement problems to contend with.

In order to tailor wear protection exactly to the customer’s needs, Coperion has developed a comprehensive six-step wear protection concept. This concept, allowing -to make an optimum choice in terms of performance and costs, has already proved itself in numerous cases of practical application.
