This initial phase of the process gently and energy-efficiently converts PET bottles into high-quality PET flakes and plays an important role in the production of Magpet’s newly launched product, Metapet rPET. The system includes all the key components of a Herbold Meckesheim washing line, including a step dryer for gentle drying with minimal fines generation as well as hot washing with hydrocyclone separation.
The successful commissioning of the Herbold Meckesheim plant section is a first step in the realization of the complete bottle-to-bottle system, which is designed for a throughput of 5,500 kg/h.
In a few weeks, the system will be expanded to include conveying, feeding and a ZSK recycling extruder, which will be integrated with the Herbold Meckesheim equipment. Once the entire system has been installed, the washed PET flakes are transferred to a ZSK, where they are gently melted, intensively dispersed and processed into a homogeneous mass. The twin screw technology of the ZSK efficiently transfers the energy into the melt and processes the PET very gently at low temperatures. Thanks to the twin screw extruder's high torque of 18 Nm/cm³, the PET's residence time in the extruder process section is very short. Degradation of the polymer chains is minimal and the product quality achieved is extremely high.
