Coperion has developed its product offering and introduces a new standardized PET recycling solution. With this innovative system Coperion meets the diverse needs of the recycling industry, offering technology to produce high-end recompounds across a wide range of throughput capacities – starting from 500 kg/h to an impressive 10 t/h.
Coperion’s new PET recycling solution has a focus on delivering exceptional product quality at a competitive price-performance ratio. The pre-engineered PET recycling system is tailored for both bottle-to-bottle and bottle-to-sheet recycling applications. When paired with a solid-state polycondensation (SSP) reactor, the resulting recompounds are certified for direct food contact by the FDA and EFSA. Recompounds produced on systems in bottle-to-sheet design are approved for food trays and beverage containers – without further treatment in a SSP reactor.
Coperion’s PET recycling systems utilize advanced twin screw extruders, which offer numerous advantages over traditional market solutions. These benefits include lower energy consumption, reduced degradation due to shorter residence times, enhanced decontamination, excellent material homogeneity, and improved intrinsic viscosity (IV) stability. The modular design of the Coperion twin screw extruders allows for easy replacement of screw elements and barrels.
High process controllability is a hallmark of Coperion’s PET recycling systems. The use of gravimetric feeders and vacuum degassing in the twin screw extruder result in extremely high product quality which can be reproduced at any time.
Regardless of the throughput, Coperion’s PET recycling solution consistently delivers high-quality end products. Coperion PET recycling systems ensure minimal IV degradation with an absolute minimum of yellowing, resulting in crystal-clear materials that retain their aesthetic appeal. Additionally, the systems offer remarkable flexibility, allowing for rapid changes in recipes and colors thanks to the excellent self-cleaning capabilities of the twin screw extruder. As pre-drying and crystallization processes can be eliminated, Coperion PET recycling systems reach significant energy and time savings.
With this development Coperion provides the next generation of its recycling technology offering which moves beyond standalone components to deliver a fully integrated PET recycling solution. The scope of delivery can be customized – from Herbold preprocessing and Herbold wash lines to finished product handling.
