    Extrusion of HMMA (High Moisture Meat Analogues)

    Coperion’s co-rotating ZSK twin screw extruders are used in the manufacture of high moisture meat analogues (HMMA). HMMA is primarily used as a high-quality meat-analogue product in ready-to-eat meals. Protein sources used to manufacture high-quality HMMA are primarily legumes such as soy, lupine or pea. By adjusting recipe and process parameters, structures of different meat types can be replicated with striking similarity to the original. This videos shows the extrusion of HMMA in Coperion’s test lab. Passing Coperion’s ZSK Food Extruder, HMMA is discharged using a specialized cooling die which produces a product strand exhibiting a texture closely resembling that of genuine meat.

    Coperion has developed several preconfigured compounding lines for GON Technology in China. Based on its know-how and expertise, Coperion has elaborated a smart concept geared to the requirements of the customer incorporating all process steps from raw material handling to feeding, compounding, strand pelletizing, conveying and bagging in one complete solution. Along with the equipment from Coperion and Coperion K-Tron, GON managed to establish a state-of-the-art compounding plant in which all disciplines perfectly fit together.

    Continuous Production of Hot Melt Pressure Sensitive Adhesive (HMPSA)

    Using Coperion's ZSK twin screw extruders to produce hot melt adhesives allows the use of a wide range of different recipe components and ensures consistently high product quality without batch-to-batch variations. The ZSK twin screw extruder in modular design and individually configured to the product group combines various process steps in one machine: plasticizing/masticating, mixing, homogenization, venting and devolatilization.

    Semi-Automatic Strand Conveying Pelletizer SCP

    The Semi-Automatic Strand Conveying Pelletizer SCP of Coperion Pelletizing Technology ensures the automatic transfer of strands from the extruder die head to the pelletizer. The SCP automatically guides the extruded strands via a cooling water chute and downstream conveyor belt into the feed mechanism of the pelletizer. The semi-automatic start-up mechanism facilitates the start-up operation, while any possible machine malfunctions caused by broken strands are avoided by the system's ability to rethread the strands.

    Coperion side-feeder ZS-B for quick clean down times

    Coperion has completely overhauled its ZS-B side feeder unit. The new ZS-B easy permits much faster dismantling from the ZSK extruder process section and the twin screws can be changed very simple. Time for cleaning e.g. for recipe changes decreases obviously.

    Coperion Feed Enhancement Technology (FET)

    In the patented Feed Enhancement Technology (FET) the feeding zone of a Coperion ZSK extruder or of a side feeder ZS-B is equipped with a porous, gas-permeable wall section to which a vacuum is applied externally. The resulting gas extraction increases the material intake capacity in the processing of feed limited products by up to 100%. The results of the FET technology are considerable increases in the throughput rate and greater cost effectiveness of the compounding plant.

    The ZSK twin screw extruder, the “forefather” of all twin screw extruders, celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. Werner & Pfleiderer, known nowadays as Coperion GmbH, delivered the first co-rotating, closely intermeshing ZSK twin screw extruder in 1957 – exactly 60 years ago. Since then, the ZSK extruders have undergone a transformation that was inconceivable 60 years ago.
